Frequently asked questions

& aftercare

Let's make sure you’re prepared and your new art stays fresh for life.

Does it hurt?

The truth is, yes, getting a tattoo does hurt. However, the level of pain is different for everyone and depends on the tattoo's location, size, and your personal pain tolerance. We'll do everything we can to make you as comfortable as possible.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

  1. Get a good night's sleep the night before.

  2. Eat a substantial meal about 1-2 hours before your session to keep your blood sugar stable.

  3. Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment.

  4. Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications (like ibuprofen and aspirin) for at least 24 hours prior to your session.

  5. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area.

  6. Bring a government-issued photo ID—it's required for all clients.

How much will my tattoo cost?

The price of a tattoo depends on its size, level of detail, complexity, and placement. We'll provide you with a quote or an hourly rate during your consultation. A non-refundable deposit is required to book your appointment and begin the design process.

Can I bring a friend or my children to my appointment?

Our studio is a focused creative space. We welcome friends to come as long as they are not a distraction for the artists at work. For your safety and the artist's, we do not allow children in the tattooing area.

How long does a tattoo take to heal?

The initial healing process, where scabbing and peeling occur, typically takes about 2-4 weeks. However, a tattoo can take several months to a year to be fully settled and a permanent part of your skin. This depends on its size, location, and how well you follow aftercare instructions.

Will I need a touch-up?

Sometimes, minor imperfections or faded spots can occur during the healing process. We offer one complimentary touch-up within the first year of getting your tattoo. If you have any concerns after it has fully healed, please reach out.

Can I go swimming or soak in a bath?

The answer used to be no. With new technology in aftercare bandages, we are able to completely cover the tattoo for submersion. As long as the bandage has a good seal all the way around, you are free to do all your normal activities as you used to. We do suggest not working up a sweat as it will pool within the bandage (sick), but it’s true. It will also still be uncomfortable with heat applied.

Aftercare Instructions

Your new art deserves the best. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth heal and a vibrant tattoo for years to come.

Immediate Aftercare (First 24-48 Hours)

  • Keep the bandage on as instructed by your artist, usually for 3-24 hours depending on the bandage type.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap before touching your tattoo.

  • Gently wash the tattoo with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Use your clean fingertips to remove any excess ink or plasma. Do not use a washcloth or loofah.

  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub with a cloth towel, as this can irritate the skin and pull away scabs.

  • Apply a thin layer of aftercare lotion as recommended by Taylor. A little goes a long way. The tattoo should be shiny, not saturated.

  • Do not re-bandage unless instructed to by your artist.

The Healing Period (Weeks 1-4)

  • Wash and moisturize your tattoo 2-3 times daily.

  • Scabbing and peeling are normal! Your tattoo will peel like a sunburn, and light scabs may form. Do not pick or scratch at them. This can pull out the ink and lead to a patchy tattoo.

  • Itching is normal. If it gets itchy, gently tap the area with the palm of your hand instead of scratching. Applying a thin layer of moisturizer can also help.

  • Wear loose, breathable clothing to prevent friction.

  • Avoid direct sunlight. Do not put sunscreen on a healing tattoo. Keep it covered with clothing when outdoors.

Long-Term Care

  • Once your tattoo is fully healed (no longer peeling or scabbing), you can switch to a regular, fragrance-free body lotion for daily moisturizing.

  • Sunscreen is your best friend. Always apply a high SPF sunscreen to your tattoo when it is exposed to the sun. UV rays are the number one cause of tattoo fading.

  • Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water helps keep your skin healthy and vibrant, which benefits your tattoos in the long run.
